Hardware Requirements

Database Server
CPU: Dual Core
Hard Drive: 80 GB or more, dependent on file size, requires minimum 10 GB free space
CPU: 4-Core
Hard Drive: 80 GB or more, dependent on file size, requires minimum 10 GB free space

FileMaker WebDirect

Supported web browsers:

FileMaker WebDirect is accessible from a web browser. Supported web browsers include:

  • Safari 6.x and Safari 7.x
  • Internet Explorer 9.x or 10.x
  • Chrome 27.x
Concurrent connections

FileMaker WebDirect is accessed using concurrent connections in FileMaker Server 13. One concurrent connection comes with FileMaker Server 13 and additional connections can be purchased through the Server Admin Console or the FileMaker Store. Learn more about concurrent connections.

Recommended Hardware Configurations:

FileMaker WebDirect may require a second machine to be configured as a Web Publishing Server. The number of concurrent users accessing your solution determines the server machine configuration.

 Recommended Web Publishing Server Configuration
Number of FileMaker WebDirect concurrent usersRAMCPU
1-6 Second machine is not required, install on database server
7-16 8 GB 4-Core
16-26 12 GB 8-Core
27-50 16 GB 12-Core

See the Server Getting Started Guide for more information on machine configurations.

The table below lists the tested and theoretical maximum simultaneous connection limits for FileMaker Server 13. Tested maximums reflect the test configuration and do not represent a guarantee of performance.

FileMaker Server 13
Type of clientsTestedTheoretical
FileMaker Pro 250 Unrestricted**
Custom Web Publishing (CWP)* 200 2000
FileMaker Go 50 Unrestricted**
FileMaker WebDirect 50 50
ODBC/JDBC 50 Unrestricted**

*Multiple users can share a single CWP connection. CWP Connections are based on simultaneous request events, rather than persistent connections.

**Connections are limited only by your hardware, database design, and operating system.

Additional Requirements

FileMaker Server 13 requires JRE 1.7.0_25. This version is the minimum requirement. FileMaker Server may also work with later versions of Java certified by
FileMaker, Inc.

FileMaker Server 13 installs what you need to use PHP including the PHP engine, the FileMaker API for PHP, sample code, and documentation. Use the latest version of PHP that FileMaker, Inc. has certified.

Windows users need PHP 5.3.27
OS X 10.9 users need PHP 5.4.17
OS X 10.8 users need PHP 5.3.15

Admin Console

The Admin Console is accessed through a web browser from a machine that has network access to FileMaker Server 13. Supported web browsers include:

Safari 6.x and Safari 7.x
Internet Explorer 9.x or 10.x
Chrome 27.x

These versions are the minimum requirements. FileMaker Server may also work with later browser versions certified by FileMaker, Inc.

Required on all deployments: Ports 80, 443, and 5003 for FileMaker clients; 16000 for Admin Console users.

FileMaker Server 13 does not limit the number of simultaneous FileMaker Pro/Pro Advanced client connections; each FileMaker Pro/Pro Advanced client requires a licensed copy of FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Pro Advanced.

Supported ESS Data Sources MS SQL Server 2008 R2
MS SQL Server 2012
MySQL 5.6
Oracle 11g R2

Database encryption

FileMaker Server 13 supports the new AES 256-bit database encryption feature. So no matter where your data lives, it’s protected from unauthorized access – whether it’s hosted on FileMaker Server 13 or on a local FileMaker client. FileMaker Pro 13 Advanced is required to enable encryption in each database.

Improved SSL certificate management

Making your databases more secure is even easier in FileMaker Server 13. When using a single machine installation, just one SSL certificate is needed to support all clients – FileMaker Pro, FileMaker Go and FileMaker WebDirect.

Encryption state indicator

Also new is a visual encryption state indicator that appears when securely connecting to FileMaker Server 13 from FileMaker Pro 13. And when the connection is validated by a third-party certificate, the indicator turns green.

Streamline database uploads

Streamline your database deployment processes with even faster database uploads. Build a solution and then upload it directly from FileMaker Pro 13 to FileMaker Server 13. Uploading from FileMaker Pro 13 ensures file transfers are faster, plus there is no file size limits.

TCP/IP port consolidation

Administration is more streamlined with FileMaker Server 13. When setting up the Server, the number of ports that need to be opened to communicate outside the firewall has been reduced to just four - 80, 443, 16000, and 5003.

New Perform Script on
Server script step

Run a specified script on FileMaker Server 13 that can be used from any FileMaker client. Use this script with server-compatible plug-ins triggered from FileMaker Go to process credit cards or other offsite information.

Container field

FileMaker Server 13 lets you back up databases separately from container field data. Store your container field files on a separate remote drive from the actual database, and make scheduled back ups even faster. Streaming media from FileMaker Server 13 is more consistent even when network bandwidth is restricted.

FileMaker can connect to SQL sources, e.g. SQL, MYSQL

Information can be found here, and e free MySQL connector is available as well (MySQL 5.1 Community Edition), free registration is required.

The connector supports 32/64 bit systems.

  • "List of" summary field type – Shows a list of all the values for a field in the found set. For example, you can use it to return a list of all the record IDs of your found set.
  • Get Modified Fields - Returns a list of fields that have been modified in the current record of the current table.
  • Get Script Animation State - Indicates whether or not animations are enabled for the current script.
  • Get Window Orientation – Returns a value indicating the orientation of the window on which the script is acting (not necessarily the foreground window).
  • Get Connection Attribute - Returns a value indicating whether the FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Go connection to the host uses SSL, including whether the server name matches the server-side certificate.
  • Base 64 Code/Decode – Encodes or decodes a container field into a text-based binary format for interchange purposes.
  • Get Layout Object Attribute – Returns a value indicating whether an object is hidden from the current layout.
  • Get Current Time UTC Millisecond - Returns the current time without time zone adjustments in the form of the number of milliseconds since 1/1/0001. UTC time zone adjustments must be applied to get your local time.
